Meet & Greet vs Valet vs Park & Ride: Which Airport Parking Actually Suits Your Trip
Every operator on the exchange lists their lot as one of four transfer types, and the difference between them is bigger than the price gap alone suggests. Here's what each one actually means for your trip.
Valet
You hand your keys to a uniformed driver at the terminal forecourt, and they park your car in a secured compound off-site. On return, you land, they've tracked your flight, and the car is waiting at (or very near) the forecourt by the time you've cleared arrivals. Zero walking, zero shuttle wait — the trade-off is that it's usually the highest-priced option, and your car does get driven by someone else.
Meet & Greet
Very similar to valet in the traveler experience — a driver meets you at the drop-off point and takes the car from there — but the term is often used for operators running a slightly leaner setup than a full valet service. In practice, compare the specifics (insurance, redelivery tracking, reviews) rather than assuming meet-and-greet and valet always differ in price or quality; on this exchange, treat the label as the starting point, not the whole story.
Park & Ride
You drive to a compound near (but not at) the airport, park it yourself, and a shuttle bus takes you and your bags to the terminal — usually every 10–15 minutes. It's almost always the cheapest transfer type on the exchange, since the operator doesn't need staff to drive every car. The cost is time: budget 20–30 minutes each way for the shuttle, on top of your own drive.
Self Park
You park your own car in a compound and walk to the terminal yourself — no shuttle, no valet. Rare at major airports where distances are too big to walk, but common at smaller regional airports where the car park sits right next to the terminal.
How to actually choose
- Tight connection or heavy luggage → valet or meet & greet, so there's no shuttle wait at either end.
- Longer trip (5+ days) where price matters more than a few minutes → park & ride is usually the best value on the exchange.
- Short regional-airport hop → check if self park is on offer; it's often barely more than park & ride with none of the shuttle wait.
- Whatever you pick, check the operator's rating and review count, not just the transfer type label — quality varies more within a category than between them.
